The experimental documentary film Lungs done by Teemu Lehmusruusu and Roberto Fusco is exhibited in the Flowing carbon exhibition in Dipoli Gallery at Otakaari 24, Espoo –. Exhibition belongs to Designs for a Cooler Planet festival of Aalto University.
Flowing Carbon exhibition presents different methods of carbon sequestration in urban green areas. It showcases how carbon can be captured and how it is released within the soil and the cycles it travels through in green spaces in Helsinki. For example, the Helsinki Biochar project utilises green waste to create biochar, organic waste turned into a type of charcoal, and explores various possible uses of the material in experimental pilot sites around Helsinki.
The exhibition presents also a glimpse into the practice of artist-researcher Teemu Lehmusruusu and his sculptural outdoor projects, in which carbon flows and living soil have an intrinsic, dynamic role. As part of this, the experimental documentary film Lungs provokes thoughts about the interaction between human and plant respiration. The artwork Lungs was done in collaboration with CO-CARBON researchers, inspired by research data and results. To know more about the collaboration you can watch this short documentary done by Aalto Studios. You are also welcome to read more about the Lungs film and its previous screening as part of LUX Helsinki art festival in January 2024.
